Here is the real truth to the Iranian protests. For the first time, the people of Iran openly said "no you are wrong" to Ayatollah Khamenei. A man, who under there beliefs, is the voice of God. He said "this is Allah's will" and the people said "no, the peoples will is Allah's will". This is in league with Martin Luther nailing the protestant reformation to the churches door in 1517. Our Protestant Reformation brought an end to the practice of having the Pope as the "supreme Leader" of most western countries, and also (eventually) brought an end to the bloodshed that was carried out in Christ name (crusades, inquisitions, etc). Ultimately, The only way we can have peace in the middle east, (and as a result, the world) is for Islam to have a "Protestant Reformation" and the people of Iran have started that process. The election itself is not as important as the fact that the current religious establishment said "this is the way it is, it is Allah's will" and the people said "No, you are wrong" and therefore, in reality said, No, you do not speak for Allah". This, (compounded by the violent crackdown on a people the Ayatollah is sworn by god to protect) undermines the very reason for the existence of the Supreme Leader under there current political system. If we do not back and support the Green Movement in Iran, then we aren't backing and supporting the future of peace and equality on our planet. If they succeed, this is a world changing event, or at least the start of one.
