Zombicon 2013 | Ft Myers Florida

Steam Punk Zombies

That’s right, the theme for 2013’s Zombiecon in Ft Myers Florida was The Time Machine.

Those folks in Southwest Florida know how to do their zombie events right. Why shouldn’t they? they have the pedigree. Ft Myers was one of the shooting locations for George Romero’s Day of the Dead. To add to that distinguished honor, I have heard rumor that the great horror effects artist Tom Devlin, and his 1313fx have some sort of operation going on in the area… )maybe that’s where those military drums came from.)

For the past few years now, they have been having a Zombicon down there, and this years was huge success. The Event began at the Harborside Event Center on Friday Oct 19th with The ticket only Premature Burial Party. Saturdays activities started at 10 am, and included kid friendly activities, as well as special appearances by  Day of the Dead stars Terry Alexander, Joe Pilato, and Gary Klar, as well as The Walking Dead’s Madison Lintz and Savana Wehunt, Michael Ornstein from Sons of Anarchy, and the afore mention Tom Devlin, as well as others. At six pm, the event expanded into the streets for the Zomie Walk, and then expanded into a block party on the streets of Ft Myers.

This is the first time in the 6 years of Zombicon that it has expanded from the street fest into a full fledged convention. The scene was fun for all and relatively orderly with only 4 arrests being reported by local police.

Did you take part in the festivities? Tell us all about it in the comments section below!

So if you missed it this year, make sure to head down to Southwest Florida next October for a zombie event not to be missed
